Dato’ George Varughese graduated with a LLB(Hons) degree from the Manchester Metropolitan University, and was thereafter admitted into the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn. He was called to the Bar of England & Wales in 1990, and admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1991.

In 1998, Dato’ George established Messrs George Varughese & Co (later rebranded as Messrs George Varughese in 2009). He had, in 1998, also obtained his Masters in Law (LLM) from the University of Malaya, and later became a Member of the Malaysian Institute of Arbitrators, a certified Sports Arbitrator (C.I.Arb), an accredited Construction Industry Adjudicator with the Asian International Arbitration Centre and a certified Mediator (C.I.Arb).

Years of dedication to the profession and to the Bar Council saw Dato’ George rise to helm the Malaysian Bar as President from 2017 until 2019.

In November 2019, Dato’ George was appointed as a Judicial Commissioner of the High Court of Malaya, in which office he served at the High Court of Malaya in Penang until 2021.

Thereafter, in 2022, Dato’ George returned to practice as a Consultant with Messrs George Varughese, where his vision continues to lend veracity and professionalism to the work of the firm’s most experienced and budding practitioners alike.
